Housing Committee submits Reconciliation in Building Violations bill

The parliament’s Housing Committee intends to complete a draft of the Reconciliation in Building Violations law in the coming few days to submit it to the plenary for voting at the end of March.

Member of the committee Khalid Abdel Aziz said that members of the committee disagreed on the violation value, which delayed the bill.

He explained that some lawmakers demanded that the fine to be at 10-15% of the value of the unit, while others wanted the rate to be at 20%.

Moreover, other members wanted the fine value to be calculated based on the land and building prices.

The draft law will include 16 articles. It was submitted by members of parliament (MPs) Fawzy Faty and Ayman Abdullah, and it was signed by 60 other MPs.

In a similar context, Abdel Aziz said that the committee also completed discussions on the Unified Building Law, which will be sent to the plenary in the coming days.

He noted that since 25 January 2011, about 135,000 building violations occur annually, while the current recorded violations stand at 1.650 million.
