Al-Sisi visits Saudi Arabia in April, after two months of tension between Cairo and Riyadh

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi is preparing to visit Saudi Arabia this month at the invitation of King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, according to Saudi Arabian foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir.

The spokesperson of the Egyptian presidency, Alaa Youssef, said that Al-Sisi received an invitation from King Salman to visit Saudi Arabia. The Saudi king also promised to visit Egypt soon at an invitation posed by Al-Sisi.

The move comes in a sign of improving relations between Cairo and Riyadh after months of tension between the two countries.

King Salman and President Al-Sisi held a bilateral meeting on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Arab League Summit in Jordan. During the meeting, both leaders stressed the importance of improving relations between the two countries.

The ties between Egypt and Saudi Arabia have suffered a phase of apathy. Observers of the region attributed the stressed ties to the countries’ different views on the conflicts in Syria and Yemen, as well as the legal and judicial obstacles impeding the transfer of ownership of the Tiran and Sanafir islands to the Kingdom.
