Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga’s home in Nyahera estate was on Wednesday night raided by suspected robbers, who stole electronics and other household items.

Ms Odinga said she was at her other home in Milimani estate at the time of the break-in.

County police commander Titus Yoma said the raid is being investigated.

Ms Odinga said her employee, who lives in an adjacent house, discovered the theft Thursday morning and reported it to the nearby Nyahera police post.

She said two Administration Police officers who used to guard the home were withdrawn in 2013.

“I was entitled to two guards at the home who were withdrawn four years ago and my efforts to have them replaced have been futile,” she said.

Ms Odinga added that she has only one bodyguard.

“He is the only one and when he is off duty I have none [though I’m] a woman leader,” she said.

Ms Odinga said she could not rule out politics as a motive for the raid.

“I am appealing for the authorities to enhance my security,” she added.

Nyanza Regional AP commander Joseph Keitany said Ms Odinga is not entitled to guards at her home.
