The street lights in Kisumu, especially along the Nairobi highway, are always off. This is simply because they are installed with Kenya Power pre-paid meters that need to have tokens loaded by the council before use. The lights are always off for the better part of the week. Why not instead use solar-powered street lights, which are cheaper and easier to manage? The Chinese contractors built a modern highway, at par with global standards of technology, and the lights are a huge minus for the county government.
