Lydia Wanjiku from Nyandarua County has become the latest millionaire in town after winning Sh1 million in Lotto draw conducted on Saturday.
The 59-year-old pocketed Sh1 million after emerging the winner in Lotto’s 165th draw that was conducted on Saturday, to become the 169th millionaire since the lottery’s inception.
Wanjiku, a cleaner at Nyandarua Sub-county public health offices, said she started participating in the draw last August but quit in December due to financial constraints.
After being declared the winner, a clearly elated Wajiku said: “I am happy I won this money and I’m thankful to God for his faithfulness, I will continue trusting him. The money will help me add to the legacy of my late husband Joseph Kariuki who passed away and left me with a young family to care for,” she said.
Prior to winning on Saturday, the widowed mother of five had only won Sh775 previously. She is yet to decide on how to spend her winnings.
Lotto’s Madaraka Day Power Draw celebration also saw Joseph Mutungi win Sh10 million in ruffle and Peter Macharia receive Sh1.2 million through matching several of the draw numbers.
