Four people were arrested Tuesday after they were found repackaging the government’s subsidized maize flour in Kimilili, Bungoma.

According to detectives, the four were repackaging the maize flour in nylon paper bags at a church with the aim of re-selling at a higher price.

The four have been identified as Mary Mugo, Peter Waweru, Lucy Njoki and Ken Mwangi. They work at Jazz Supermarket in Kimilili town.

A fifth suspect and owner of Jazz Supermarket, Jackson Mugo, managed to escape and is being pursued by police.

Kimilili sub-county Commissioner Reuben Loyotoman said the flour had been transported in four canters and was to be resold at Sh75 per half-kilo at shops within Bungoma.

He said they found more than 177 bales of the flour and thanked members of the public for giving police information which led to the arrest of the four.

Kimilili OCPD Mary Wakuu said police have launched investigations to arrest more traders committing the crime.
