Jubilee Party MPs on Sunday lashed out at Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga for opposing the construction of the Naivasha dry port.

They said Mr Odinga is retrogressive and called on Kenyans to reject him on August 8.

Mr Njogu Barua (Gichugu), Mr Gachoki Gitari (Kirinyaga Central) Mr Jamleck Kamau (Kigumo), Mr Joseph Kiuna (Njoro), Mr John Kihagi (Naivasha), Mr Samuel Gichigi (Kipipiri), Mr Nelson Gaichuhie (Subukia), Ms Esther Nyambura (Ruiru), Ms Mary Wambui (Othaya) and Mr Mathenge Nderitu of Gilgil told Kenyans to ignore Mr Odinga.

“Mr Odinga is bad for the economy of Kenya and he should be ignored,” Mr Kihagi said.

Speaking at Ithareini market in Kirinyaga, the MPs, who are members of the Uhuruto Express campaign team, said the port project is meant to create jobs and improve infrastructure.

They told Mr Odinga to stop lying about the project and dismissed allegations that the setting up of the port is intended to sabotage the economy of Mombasa.

ELECTRICITY
Elsewhere, Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter told off Mr Odinga over claims that Kenya Power awarded some Jubilee leaders a contract to supply concrete electricity poles at the expense of tree farmers.

Last week at Kericho Moi gardens, Mr Odinga claimed that the unnamed leaders had formed a company that supplied the concrete poles at Sh19,000 each, spoiling the market for tree suppliers.

But Mr Keter rubbished the claims, saying the government had opened up a huge market opportunity to farmers through the implementation of the Last Mile electricity connection programme being rolled out across the country, contrary to Mr Odinga’s claims.
