American rapper, Wiz Khalifa has come under fire after he posted a picture of his visit to the grave of the notorious Columbian drug kingpin, Pablo Escobar.
It was reported that Khalifa was in Medellin to perform at a music festival and stopped by the infamous drug lord’s resting place to smoke a joint and take a gravesite picture which he shared on his Instagram page.
The rapper also to colourful flowers to the grave in obvious admiration to one whom Colombia considered a narcotic terrorist during his live time.

Many people, especially, Colombians found the gesture very offensive, hence Federico Gutiérrez who’s the mayor of Medellin allegedly said this in an interview with a local media:
“Instead of bringing flowers to Pablo Escobar, he should have brought flowers to the victims of violence in this city. Who goes to Germany, for example, and talks about the whole Hitler period?… You’d go straight to jail.”
The mayor demanded the “See You Again” artist offer an apology to the city, adding that Khalifa will not be welcomed back. Gutierrez blamed concert organisers for failing to stop the star from making what he described as an affront to the victims of the drug violence unleashed by Escobar’s Medellin Cartel in the 1980s and 1990s.
Meanwhile, Khalifa has tendered an apology via his Instagram page which captioned:
“Didn’t mean to offend anyone with my personal activities in Colombia but I’m glad we came and got work done and everyone was safe. Peace and love.”
Life and Death of Pablo Escobar
History described Pablo Escobar as a Colombian drug lord, drug trafficker and a narcotic terrorist whose turned the country into the murder capital of the world. Crowned as the “King of Cocaine” his drug cartel supplied an estimated 80% of the cocaine smuggled into the United States at the height of his career, turning over US $21.9 billion a year in personal income.
In the prime of his reign, Forbes named him as one of the billionaires and wealthiest criminal in history with an estimated known net worth of US $30 billion by the early 1990s.
Escobar was also elected as an alternate member of the Chamber of Representatives of Colombia as part of the Colombian Liberal Party, through which he was responsible for the construction of many hospitals, schools, and churches in western Colombia which gained him popularity among the locals.
All his charity acts garnered him popularity inside the local Roman Catholic Church as well as with the locals of the towns that he frequented. However, the country was wallowing in drug violence and unsolve assassinations of police officers, judges, politicians and anyone who poses a threat to the cartel.
