Femi Kuti Sax World Record: Femi To Attempt Breaking Guiness Record A Second Time

Nigerian saxophonist and son of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, Femi Kuti did not break the Sax World Record afterall.

As it turns out, Femi Kuti, didn’t set a new world record on Sunday when he held a single note on a saxophone for 46mins 38secs.

Femi Kuti, an internationally renowned musician in his own right, admitted that the celebrations from his family and fans over the record breaking feat had been premature.

This is coming after he mistakenly thought that he had surpassed the previous longest note played by US saxophonist Kenny G.

The official Guinness World Record for “the longest continuous note on a saxophone using the circular breathing method” is in fact held by Vann Burchfield (USA).

Burchfield set the record of 47mins, 5secs back in 2000, as Beat Fm OAP, Immanuel Odeyemi pointed out on Twitter.

Immanuel posted saying:

Femi Kuti has himself come out to say that he did not know that he had not broken the actual Guiness Sax World Record.

Femi took to Twitter to confirm that he will make another attempt to break the world record this Sunday.

He posted saying:

Meanwhile, Femi Kuti’s younger sister, Yenia Kuti,is yet to take down a post she shared on Instagram on Sunday, proclaiming Femi Kuti as the new World Record Holder.

Femi Kuti Fails Sax World Record Attempt

The photo showed Femi making the record attempt at the New Afrika Shrine in Lagos.

Yenia Kuti hailed Femi as “a world champ”.
