Nigerian Musicians Disgraced Out Of Stage In London

Top Nigerian musicians such as Banky W, Flavour, Davido, Wizkid, Psquare, Jidenna, Falz, Phyno, Victoria Kimani, Tiwa Savage, MI, 9ice, Skales, Emma Nyra, Eugy, Atumpan and Sonoman and DJ sets by Crowd Kontroller (CK), Obi, Spinall and Abrantee, were live at the One Africa Music Fest London.

The show scheduled for last Saturday night (May 13) became another “African time” norm that we often tolerate in Nigeria where live shows begin some hours later than planned. Unfortunately, in developed countries like the UK, time is money, and indiscipline is zero tolerance.

One Africa Music Fest London started more than an hour late (past the time limit paid for). As a result, while some of the artists were still performing their turn, the authorities at SSE Arena turned off the lights with people still inside.

According to a report, the show was promoted and announced to start at 7pm, and on the event venue website, everything was ready.

Due to a football game happening at the Wembley Stadium with a kickoff time of 5.15pm, concertgoers were told to arrive early enough to get the show started and prevent traffic congestion and issues with accessing the venue.

Having 21 Africa’s best artists to perform at such time range, they could not afford to waste a single minute of it. However, 7pm came and went with crowds waiting for the show to start. It was not until 8.20pm that Banky W opened the show and then each artist was practically rushing to complete their turn.

The promise to have a great concert and great expectations of the audience who bought tickets to attend was broken as the venue management – the SSE Arena, Wembley, London, UK, cut the light without any care of whose ox is gored.

List of stars who were hurried through their acts include Cassper Nyovest, Sarkodie, M.I Abaga, Awilo Longomba, 9ice, Falz, Tekno, Tiwa Savage, Phyno, Olamide, Davido, Flavour and Psquare.

Another artist who didn’t even have the slightest chance to perform at the One Africa Music Fest London was Jidenna. An angry observer took to social media to write:

“This is the UK and there are professional standards to be upheld. You don’t use Eko Hotel behaviour to organise a show in London. They were disgraced out of the venue, and as fans waited for a miracle to happen, they were met with their worst nightmare; stage technicians dismantling the stage, right in front of them.”

Though he was optimistic, Jidenna expressed his disappointments with a caption:
