Wizkid Nominated For Seven Billboard Music Awards

Nigerian superstar Wizkid has been nominated for 7 awards at the upcoming 2017 Billboard Music Awards. The nominations are all thanks to his hit collaboration with Drake & Kyla on “One Dance” last year.

Wizkid did the hook on the track which he also co-produced.

One Dance’ is nominated for Top Hot 100 Song, Top Selling Song, Top Radio Song, Top Streaming Song (Audio), Top Collaboration, Top R&B Song and Top R&B Collaboration

Billboard says the nominees are split up into 52 different categories and  potential winners were based on their song sales, streams, radio airplay, live tours and social engagement

Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Nicki Minaj, Celine Dion, Lorde, Imagine Dragons, Drake, John Legend, Florida Georgia Line and Camila Cabello are expected to perform.

Drake and The Chainsmokers were the most nominated. Both are contesting for awards in 22 categories.

They will also square up for major categories such as Top Artist, Top Male Artist, and Top Billboard 200 Artist.

Twenty-One Pilots have 17 nominations, Rihanna earned 14 while The Weeknd and Beyonce have 13 nominations each.

This year’s Billboard annual awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 21.

It would be recalled that Wizkid was also nominated last year for the 59th annual Grammy Awards for his contribution to Drake’s 2016 “Views” album.

The song which was released April 2016 falls into the Grammy eligibility period – October 1, 2015, o September 30, 2016, and racked up 4.67 million streams in one week and pulled about 3,000 combined chart sales.

The song set a new record, becoming the longest running No. 1 single in U.K.’s digital era. As of June 16, 2016, ‘One Dance’ has sold 1,280,141 copies in the United States and spent 11 straight weeks on the top of the Billboard chart.

One Dance also won several awards in 2016, one of which was the Teen Choice Award for Choice R&B/Hip-Hop Song.
