The last is not heard of the saga involving the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and Audu Maikori, founder of one of Nigeria’s foremost entertainment music outfit, Chocolate City which led to the latter’s arrest, detention and re-arrest by the Nigeria Police on the behest of the former.
According to reports, the entertainment mogul and social activist, Audu Maikori has sued Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai for what he termed “gross violation of his human rights.”
Recall that Audu Maikori was arrested on in February by a team of policemen attached to Inspector-General Monitoring and Intelligence team.

The reason for his arrest was based on a petition by the Kaduna State government who, in a petition accused the entertainment mogul of incitement to cause violence and public unrest following his tweet about the death of five students from College of Education, Gidan-Waya, Kaduna were killed by armed Fulani herdsmen on their way to school.
Mr. Maikori later retracted his statement and apologized for the tweet after personal investigations.
A very long statement of apology which was all over the social media at the time, read in part:
“Following the statement by the College of Education, Gidan-Waya Kaduna and the Kaduna State government refuting the story that 5 students of the school were killed by Fulani herdsmen en-route to school on the 27th of January 2017, as reported by my one Simon Joseph (my personal driver), I decided to further investigate the story to ensure that all the facts of the case and evidence were presented to the authorities.
“…I decided that the right thing to do was to issue a statement retracting the tweet which reported the killings of students of the College of Education as relayed to me by my driver.
“And I had no reason to doubt him due to the spate of killings in the area and because in the 8 months he has worked for me, he had never “lied” to me about anything or so I thought. Besides, why would any right thinking human lie about the death of a sibling?
“Consequently, I hereby tender an unreserved and sincere apology to the Management of the College of Education, Gidan Waya, His Excellency the Governor of Kaduna State and the Kaduna State Government, and also to the people of Southern Kaduna and the Fulani community and also VANGUARD newspapers whose source was my driver for the false statement by my driver which I also publicized believing same to be true…”
According to him, he got the information from his driver who told him that he (the driver) lost his younger brother in the attack as a means to obtain money from him.
After his arrest, he was immediately transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja where he was detained until his release.
Reports in some quarters suggested that it took phone calls from highly connected personalities to the Kaduna State government for his release to be affected.
It was however claimed in the media that he was released on medical grounds.
However, in a swift move, Mr. Maikori has filed a suit (FHC/ABJ/CS/385/17) seeking damages to the tune of N10 billion at the Federal High Court, Abuja with the Ballason’s Chambers as his legal representatives.
