My journey hiking Abuja started off on a lovely Saturday morning; the perfect weather to put an extensive smile on any hikers face. I was excited about this hike because it was my first time hiking in Abuja. If you’ve been to Abuja you’ll understand why! The landscape surrounding the city is just breathtaking; arguably second to none.

The hiking event had been put together by Naija Adventurers (an activity they do almost every other weekend). It’s currently raining season here in Nigeria and so Abuja’s weather could be unpredictable. Unexpectedly, the weather changed and the beautiful Saturday morning weather had been threatened by light showers.
Gladly, the abrupt switch in weather only led to light showers and so the weather immediately brightened up; leaving no trace of rain drops in its tracks.
Hiking Abuja – Dawaki Hills And Rocks
The meeting point was at City Park, Wuse II, Abuja. Immediately after everyone got together, we drove down to the hike location. And so the hike began, as we climbed up the hills some good music was being played through the outlet of a portable speaker; the crowd was just right.
Shortly after the hike had begun, the challenge of the slopes started coming down heavy on a selected few, but giving up was not an option. We made some relevant stops for refreshments as we progressed and those who were literally the opposite of the phrase “Camera shy” seized the moment to take some memorable shots.
The view from the top was overwhelming and while this was a fun trip for some, I couldn’t help but notice the climb up was a daily routine for those living in the area. The locals had to hustle up and down these hills and rocks to plant their crops, tap some palm wine or engage in some sort of hunting activity. There were also those who engaged in various craft-making along the path.
My first experience hiking Abuja was fun as I got to mingle with some new faces and explore our country Nigeria with some like minded individuals. If you are new in Abuja, such activities are the best ways to make contacts and meet up with the right set of Abuja residence. Credit goes out to the Naija Adventurers team.
