\n Western Cape police detained eight vehicles and arrested four suspects believed to be responsible for a mass hijacking in the Metropole on Monday night in Blackheath‚ Cape Town.\n

This follows an investigation by members of the Flying Squad and a vehicle tracking company after a truck belonging to a Somalian businessman with goods was hijacked in Ravensmead‚ Cape Town.

Provincial SAPS management commended all units involved. “We believe we have made a breakthrough in curbing hijackings in the province. The arrest will go a long way in making the Western Cape safer.”

The suspects were disguised as police officials.

The police confirmed that copies of fake police identity certificates‚ police reflector jackets‚ blue lights‚ computer equipment (used for reproducing police IDs) and an unlicensed firearm were also seized

The four suspects‚ two men and two females aged between 30 and 40 years‚ will appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court once they have been charged with hijacking‚ illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
