Staff at various branches of Absa bank should brace themselves for potential disruption amid the regular payday rush‚ as the African National Congress Youth League says it has lobbied for the youth to phone their call centres and ask them when they will pay back the money.
“The ANC Youth League will continue their push for Absa to pay back the money tomorrow the 26th of January. We also request all young South Africans in particular tomorrow to call Absa call centre and ask them when are they paying back the money‚” Youth League Secretary General Njabulo Nzuza told a news conference on Wednesday.
He said all provinces‚ regions and branches will also hold demonstrations in various Absa establishments in a bid to hold the bank accountable for money that was allegedly stolen.
This follows the leaking of Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s provisional report which found that Absa should repay R2.25 billion to the fiscus for an apartheid-era Reserve Bank bail-out for Bankorp.
