A rescue operation is under way near the Hotel Sani Pass in the southern Drakensberg for a man reported to have been swept away after falling over a waterfall.
Underberg Himeville Community Watch chief executive officer‚ John Pearce‚ confirmed that a rescue operation was under way after a construction worker went for a swim and was swept away on Thursday afternoon.
Mountain guide and coordinator of the Sani Search Volunteer Mountain Rescue group Paul Roth said he was in the middle of the operation to search for the man and was unable to comment.
Premier Hotels and Resort Group brand manager Alan Campbell said the hotel had been closed for a number of months and handed over to a construction company for a major refurbishment.
Campbell said the group‚ which own the hotel‚ had been informed about the incident but didn’t know the circumstances. He said they were awaiting further news.
