Quick work by police nets Cape gang murder suspects

Western Cape police arrested three people within hours of multiple shooting incidents this week.
After a suspected 26’s gang member was shot and killed on Tuesday night in Belhar in the Western Cape‚ the same suspects opened fire on another man‚ wounding him and a two-year-old girl.
Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said the same suspects responsible for the murder‚ later shot at two other people.
“While police were at the crime scene the same vehicle pulled up at Chestnut Place and randomly started shooting from the black Hyundai i10‚” he said.
Van Wyk said after both incidents‚ the station commander at the Belhar police station established a task team of members and within an hour. two suspects were arrested on charges of murder and attempted murder.
“The task team continued with their operation and… at approximately 10.10 they spotted a man with a firearm in Batavia Road‚ Ext 13‚ Belhar.
“They approached the suspect to search him‚ but he pointed the firearm at a police officer who then fired at the suspect. The suspect was arrested with a prohibited firearm and 15 9mm rounds‚” he said.
“Cases related to the possession of a prohibited firearm and pointing of a firearm were opened against the 17-year-old suspect. He is suspected of being a 26 Sexy Boy gang member.”
Van Wyk confirmed that all three suspects are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court soon on charges including murder‚ attempted murder and possession of a prohibited firearm.
