Police and Western Cape education department officials are baffled by the murder of an education department finance clerk.
Cape Town police have appealed for information about the circumstances of the murder of Nolovuyo Monwane.
Two armed men entered her home in Langa this week and asked for her by name before she was in her bedroom. Her husband‚ Tladi Monwane‚ and the children were unharmed. Western Cape education MEC Debbie Schäfer said the murder was “very strange” and appeared to be unrelated to Monwane’s work.
“She was a very quiet person and the finance people are quite upset about it. It definitely does seem very strange because they seemed to have been looking for her personally‚” said Schäfer.
Police spokesman FC van Wyk said Langa police received reports of the shooting‚ in Dalindyebo Street‚ Zone 2‚ on Wednesday night.
“It is alleged two unknown men knocked at a house. A child from the house opened the door. Two suspects entered the house and demanded to see Nolovuyo Monwane‚ who was there with her husband‚” said Van Wyk.
“One suspect remained in the kitchen and ordered the children‚ aged six and 16‚ to keep quiet while the other armed suspect entered the bedroom and fired several shots at Noluvuyo.”
She died on the way to hospital.
The unidentified suspects are still at large.
“We are shocked and we truly hope to find out what the reason was. We send condolences to her friends and family‚” said Schäfer.
Station commander at Langa police station Colonel Musawenkosi Mbatha is appealing to the community to come forward with any information regarding the incident by contacting Detective Captain Nozibele Sigenu on 073 121 8067 or Langa SAPS on 021 695 8019.
