A Rowallan Park man remains in a critical condition in Port Elizabeth’s Livingstone Hospital after he was mauled by two pitbulls on Saturday.
Health department spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said ambulance personnel who were at the scene reported that two dogs escaped from a garden and attacked a man walking by.
The man was seriously injured and had to be resuscitated at the scene.
Police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the circumstances of the attack were still being investigated.
She said the dogs’ owner was not at home at the time of the incident.
She added that a man in his 50s was in a critical condition at Livingstone.
Another man was bitten after getting involved in the dog attack.
“He attempted to ward them off from further attacking the man‚” she said.
“At this stage details are vague and police have opened a case under the Animal Protection Act. The dogs were removed‚” Naidu said.
