Mandrax manufacturing syndicate bust in overnight police operation

Machines‚ equipment and chemicals with an estimated value of R10 million have been confiscated in a major operation by police against a criminal drug syndicate in Limpopo.
Tagging the operation as #DrugsOffTheStreets‚ police said the raid on the drug laboratory lasted several hours‚ until 4am this morning.
Provincial Crime Intelligence‚ Groblersdal Crime Intelligence‚ the K9‚ members from the Forensic Department and the Hawks were involved.
Police said in a statement they received information regarding the suspects who are involved in vehicle theft‚ carjacking and dealing in and manufacturing drugs at Thabakhubedu village in the Dennilton policing precinct.

Two suspects aged 26 and 39 were arrested but two more managed to evade arrest.
Equipment for the manufacturing of Mandrax tablets‚ a presser machine‚ a mixer machine‚ industrial stoves‚ chemicals used to make mandrax and five bags containing mandrax powder were seized.
Two vehicles‚ a Ford meteor and Nissan NP300‚ reported stolen in January 2009 in Thabazimbi‚ were recovered‚ as was a cash amount of R29‚820.
“The arrested suspects will be charged with manufacturing and dealing in drugs and possession of stolen vehicles‚” the SAPS said. “More arrests are expected.”
