“They wanted everything of value. I fumbled to find safe keys and they hit me on the head with one of their guns. They were inside with us for over three hours. They were just ransacking”, said home owner.

Birthday celebrations for a Westville family were marred when they were attacked by gunmen who stormed their home outside Durban on Monday night.

Angie Stirk told TMG Digital that during their three-hour ordeal at gunpoint‚ she was groped and threatened with rape.

“The one guy threatened to rape me…he took my breasts out of my top and rubbed my privates…as if to emphasise what would happen if we didn’t hand over our valuables‚” she said.

Stirk said she and her husband Brandon had been on their veranda after a birthday party at their home.

“We had a braai at our home for my husband’s birthday and after our last guests left at around midnight. We cleaned up and we were on our veranda and the next minute these three men appeared out of nowhere.”

The trio ushered the couple inside while their two sons‚ aged 10 and 8‚ lay sleeping in their bedrooms.

“They wanted everything of value. I fumbled to find safe keys and they hit me on the head with one of their guns. They were inside with us for over three hours. They were just ransacking.”

“When they took us to the bedroom‚ I said my two boys were sleeping and I told them they wouldn’t harm my children…I was very firm about that‚” Stirk added.

When the men were ready to make their getaway‚ the gunmen told Stirk that she would have to drive them into Clermont.

“My husband said he would go in my place and they eventually agreed but they wanted to take one of my sons with them as insurance that he wouldn’t do anything brave.”

When Stirk heard her husband she called the police and pressed her security panic button.

Her husband Brandon and their 10-year-old son dropped them in Clermont and were unharmed.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said detectives were investigating the house robbery.
