Cop wounded in early morning skirmish

A Durban police officer had a brush with death after being shot in the stomach while on a firearm seizure operation south of Durban in the early hours of Friday morning.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said that members of the flying squad‚ as well as operatives from the Crime Intelligence Unit‚ had surrounded a house in the Singqungquma area near KwaMakhutha.
“The members followed up on information about a suspect‚ allegedly in possession of the firearms in the area. Upon arrival at the mentioned area‚ an unknown suspect fired shots at the police‚” he said.
“A Durban Flying Squad officer sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach. The injured police officer was taken to hospital for medical attention.
“We condemn the attack on police officers. We wish the injured man in blue a speedy recovery while his team is still searching for the suspect.”
