A 25-year-old Diepsloot woman appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for allegedly stabbing her stepdaughter 19 times.
The woman‚ who cannot be named to protect the identity of the six-year-old child‚ had her case postponed to Wednesday for a formal bail application.
It is alleged the child’s father had laid charges of malicious damage to property against the woman.
When the father went to the house he shared with the woman with the police on March 24‚ the woman had locked herself in with the child.
According to the charge sheet‚ the woman refused to open when the police ordered her to do so and instead stabbed the child in full view of the police officers and other witnesses.
The child is being treated for her injuries in hospital.
