The EFF has joined the nation in paying tribute to gospel star Lundi Tyamara and through a statement have commended his “loyalty” to the political party.
Ever since news of the gospel star’s death was confirmed on Friday morning social media networks have been filled with an outpouring of tributes from fans and high-profile personalities.
In a statement released by EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi the political party remembered Lundi’s contribution to the movement.
“Lundi Tyamara was one of us. He sang and performed on EFF stages even when it was unfashionable to do so. When many artists were isolated and criticized for being associated with the EFF, Lundi stayed with us because in essence, he believed in the course and generational call of economic freedom,” read part of the statement.
The statement added that Lundi used his talent to contribute to a revolution. “Not only did he remain in our associations, Lundi openly supported the EFF. It is therefore not just an artist that has fallen but a revolutionary who used his talent to awaken our people spiritually and to partake in generational revolution of his time.”
The party also called on the nation to support his family in this difficult time.
President Jacob Zuma has also offered condolences to Lundi’s family. “This is yet another huge loss for the country in a short space of time. He was one of the best gospel artists that the country has ever produced. We are with his family in thoughts and prayers during this trying period. May his soul rest in peace,” President Zuma said.
The Mphefumlo Wam hitmaker died during the early hours of Friday morning after battling with stomach TB and liver complications since December. Judging by the outpouring of tributes the gospel star touched the lives of thousands of people from all walks of life.
