The producers of Generations: The Legacy have slammed a fake report claiming that late actor Joe Mafela earned as little as R1,200 a day while shooting on the show.
According to the fake report, the actor’s salary was apparently “leaked” to them by a senior employee at the show claiming that Joe, who played the role Tebogo Moroka on the soapie, made only R1,200 a shoot.
The report went to claim that he would sometimes make R3,600 a week and often went days and weeks without earning anything.
The reports created such a social media storm that Generations issued a statement this week to dismiss the claims.
“It is really unfortunate that fake news is spreading at such a difficult time for Joe Mafela’s family and colleagues. We undoubtedly refute all claims stated in the article. At the time of his passing Joe Mafela was happy at Generations: The Legacy and we enjoyed a good working relationship with him,” the statement read.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Joe’s niece Millicent “Milly” Mulelu said that the family were alarmed at the reports.
“It is not true. Joe worked hard and he would never have been paid only R1,200 a day. He was a well known actor and was not exploited by Generations,” Milicent said.
