Sevilla, Barcelona keep pressure on Real Madrid in La Liga

Sevilla and Barcelona had contrasting wins as they kept the pressure on La Liga leaders Real Madrid after Sunday’s results.

Barcelona earned a comfortable win, with Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez and his namesake Denis Suarez all finding the net against Eibar.

They were far from their best, with an injury to Sergio Busquets in the 10th minute also a concern. Denis Suarez replaced him after Busquets departed with an ankle injury.

The substitute opened the scoring after 30 minutes, finishing from outside the box before Messi scored in the 50th minute after a cross from Luis Suarez.

Luis Suarez robbed defender Florian Lejeune and drilled home the third before Neymar scored in injury time, ending a run of nine La Liga games without a goal.

Victory moved third-placed Barca to two points behind leaders Real Madrid and a point behind Sevilla.

Sevilla required late goals from Franco Vazquez and Pablo Sarabia to take three points after bottom-placed Osasuna held their own against the second-placed team.

Sevilla captain Vicente Iborra scored for both sides as they staged another come-from-behind win after their 2-1 win over Real Madrid a week earlier.

They twice went behind, first when Sergio Leon put Osasuna 1-0 up in the 15th minute.

Iborra equalised two minutes before halftime by following up a Stevan Jovetic cross, but undid that effort in the 63rd minute when he deflected an Osasuna cross into his own net.

Iborra was at the right end two minutes later, equalising a second time, althought there were claims that he was offside.

Vazquez gave Sevilla their first lead, heading in from a corner on 80 minutes. Osasuna players protested that he had pushed an opponent before the cross came in.

Substitute Sarabia sealed their fifth straight La Liga win with a goal from the edge of the area in the 91st before Kenan Kodro scored a consolation goal in the 92nd minute.

Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid shared the points after Antoine Griezmann got an equaliser 10 minutes from time.

Madrid took the lead after a cross from Koke was missed by everyone and found the corner of the net.

Inigo Lekue and Oscar De Marcos scored either side of halftime to put Bilbao ahead 2-1, but Griezmann registered his eighth goal of the season to help Atleti hold on to fourth.

Real Sociedad beat Celta Vigo to win their fourth game in five matches, with Juanmi the only scorer from a header from close range into the bottom right corner.

Sergio Canales provided the cross from a corner.

Real Betis headed statistics for possession and shots on goal, but the game ended in a goalless draw.
