Transfer round-up: 26 January

In our transfer round-up today, Chelsea and Arsenal could potentially make big signings while we also discuss the future of Algeria striker Islam Slimani.

Vidal on his way to Chelsea?

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has been given the green light to launch a £56-million bid for Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal, according to the Daily Express.

The report says Conte has made the Chile international – the pair won three Serie A titles together for Juventus – his priority target and has apparently already spoken to Vidal about a move to Stamford Bridge.

Bayern paid £25.5m when they signed the 29-year-old two years ago but are demanding a hefty sum from the English Premier League leaders.

Speaking in March last year, Conte said of Vidal: “He has extraordinary physical and technical attributes, if I get to coach him a little more it’d be fantastic. I want him in all my teams.”

Morata prefers Arsenal switch

Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata is unhappy at the Spanish giants and is considering a move to English side Arsenal.

According to Diario Gol, Morata is considering his options as he continues to play second fiddle to Karim Benzema for the lone striker role at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

The Spanish paper says Morata has a number of Premier League clubs interested, but is apparently keenest on a move to the Emirates, although the Spain international’s transfer fee would be in excess of £50m.

Big offer from China for Slimani

The Daily Mail reports that Leicester City striker Islam Slimani is a transfer target for Chinese club Tianjin Quinjian, although no approach has been made yet.

The Algeria international was only signed by the Foxes before the start of this season for a fee of £29-million from Portuguese club Porto, but it is understood that Quinjian will make a bid in the region of £40m.

The 28-year-old is back in England after Algeria were knocked out in the group stages of the ongoing Africa Cup Nations in Gabon.
