Yaya Toure back in Manchester City’s Champions League squad

Gabriel Jesus is also added to Pep Guardiola’s roster for the knockout stage of the competition, with Ilkay Gundogan dropping out due to injury

Yaya Toure has been called into Manchester City’s Champions League squad for the latter stages of the competition.

City face Monaco in the last 16 and, having left the Ivorian out of his plans for the group stages, Pep Guardiola has now decided to bring him back into the fold.

Toure was on the scoresheet as the Citizens demolished West Ham 4-0 at the London Stadium on Wednesday, with Gabriel Jesus also starring as he grabbed a goal and an assist.

The January signing from Palmeiras is another to have been added to the club’s submitted list for Europe’s premier club competition.

Ilkay Gundogan is one of the City stars to have been omitted from the squad, with the former Dortmund midfielder continuing his recovery from a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho has also been removed although is still eligible to play for the club in the Champions League.

The criteria states that a player can still feature in the competition if they are born on, or after, January 1, 1995 and have been eligible to play for the club for any uninterrupted period of two years since their 15th birthday.
