Barcelona star Neymar to stand trial for corruption in Santos deal

Barcelona forward Neymar will be taken to court on corruption charges after failing with his final appeal to kill the case relating to his transfer from Santos in 2013.

A Brazilian investment group lodged a complaint after revealing they had only received minor compensation for the mega-money deal, with the true fee having been concealed initially.

Barca, the Peixe and Neymar’s parents all lost similar appeals and will also stand trial for their part in the saga. The Spanish giants originally announced they had signed the Brazil international for €57.1 million, only to admit 18 months later they actually paid €86.2m for his services.

Prosecutors want jail-time and fines for Neymar and his father, who runs the company owning the 25-year-old, although neither is likely to end up in prison as they would be first-time offenders.
