Bastian Schweinsteiger singles out one Man Utd staff member for special praise – and it’s not Jose Mourinho
The German midfielder is heading to MLS club Chicago Fire and had a message for the club’s fitness coach Paolo Gaudino
Bastian Schweinsteiger has thanked the Manchester United staff for their support, highlighting one individual in particular for standing by him.
The world’s best U-19 talents
The 32-year-old is joining MLS side Chicago Fire in the coming days, with United confirming the German is to leave the club subject to a medical and international clearance.
Manager Jose Mourinho had frozen out Schweinsteiger from his first-team plans, before eventually allowing him to rejoin training and handing him a substitute appearance against West Ham in November.
But the 32-year-old has now made the decision to leave the club, posting a tribute to fitness coach Paolo Gaudino on his Instagram page as he says his farewells.
Schweinsteiger wrote: “A big thank you to the entire staff, for everything you’ve done for me.
“Especially to my friend and PT Paolo for always standing by my side! Mille grazie!”
Schweinsteiger made a total of 35 appearances in all competitions for United since joining the club from Bayern Munich back in 2015.
