Breastfeeding mother drowns in Lwera pond

Police in Mpigi District are investigating two separate incidents where two people died near Lwera wetland in Nkozi Sub County and Mitala Maria in Buwama Sub County.

According to police, the first incident occurred at Kamaliba landing site on Friday evening when a breastfeeding mother identified as Annet Nabuuma, 24, a wife to Mr Dennis Ssengonzi, drowned in one of the ponds owned by a Kampala businessman Mr Simpson Birungi alias Movit, according to residents.

Mr John Baptist Kasango, the Officer in Charge of Buwama Police Station said the deceased left a one-year-old baby. He added that the body was taken to Gombe Hospital Mortuary for autopsy as investigations continue.

Another incident happened in one of the gardens at St. Theresa Convent near Mitala Maria Catholic Parish and St. Balikuddembe Secondary School on Saturday afternoon, when residents found a blood stained body of an unidentified man.

Mr Joseph Mbonigaba, the Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations at Buwama Police Station said they were alerted by one of the nuns who found the body in their garden.

“Unfortunately, we haven’t found any document with the deceased and the residents don’t know him. You may find that he was a boda-boda cyclist and we suspect the killers to have gone with his motorcycle,” Mbonigaba said adding that, “we are taking the body to Mulago National Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem as we are moving forward to carry out thorough investigations to get the culprits”.

The death comes after the killing of five people in the area under unclear circumstances since this year began.
