A UPDF Captain attached to the General Court Martial (GCM) panel has died, army sources have said.
Capt. Tom Amee was one of the seven man panel of the Makindye based Military court chaired by Lt. Gen. Andrew Gutti.
The soldier who has also been serving as the Political Commissar General at the Military Headquarters in Bombo died at Nakasero Hospital on Sunday.
Maj. John Bizimana, the Registrar of the GCM said that Capt Amee collapsed at his home in the barracks in Bombo.
“It had taken two days when the deceased soldier was not answering his telephone calls and yet he was staying alone. This compelled his wife to run to his home and only find him struggling for his life,” said Maj. Bizimana.
He added that the soldier’s wife called for help and he was taken to Bombo before he was transferred to Nakasero Hospital where he breathed his last.
Maj. Bizimana said that they were still waiting for communication from the army administration for the burial arrangements.
He said: “It is unfortunate and a sad moment for the court and the entire army. But we are thankful to God for the service he has rendered to our country.”
Capt. Amee’s body has been transferred to Bombo Military hospital morgue pending postmortem, another soldier who declined to be named said.
Capt. Amee is the second member of the army court to die in less than one year.
In April last year, the Chairman of the GCM, Maj Gen. Levi Karuhanga died after he returned from India where he had been taken for treatment.
