Rakai- Mr Fred Tamale, a statistician attached to Rakai District Planning Unit has survived death after being kidnapped on his way to work at Kyotera town on Tuesday.
According to Mr Tamale, he was approached by a man asking for directions to the district headquarters, but before he could respond, he was pushed inside a white saloon car and immediately tied up as the car set off.
The kidnappers reportedly searched him and took Shs350,000 from his pocket as they ordered him to call his friends or relatives to send them Shs5 million in order to spare his life.
Mr Tamale was found unconscious by herdsmen in a bush at Villa Maria, in Masaka, who took him to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital.
“I tried to hesitate and they tied my neck with ropes, I was forced to call my wife who sent Shs500,000 to my phone which they withdrew in a place that I don’t know since they had blindfolded me,” he said after recuperating.
Mr Tamale said the thieves also took his phone, laptop computer and identity card.
Mr Hashim Kasinga, the Rakai District Police commander has confirmed Mr Tamale’s kidnap and loss of property saying they are coordinating with Masaka police look for the thieves and lost property.
There has been a rise of insecurity in the greater Masaka region. Several people have been injured by thugs who attack them in their homes.
