Besigye vows not to return to court over treason charges

Besigye was arrested in May last year on the eve of president Yoweri Museveni’s swearing in and airlifted to Moroto District where he was charged and remanded to prison. However, he was later transferred to Kampala and charged an Nakawa before being released on bail by the High Court. Former Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has vowed not to return to Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court where he was charged with treason after the state said it was still investigating the case since May last year when he was arrested.
“I will respectfully want to inform this court that I will not come back to this court. When investigations are done they can inform me. I will only come back to this court as a prisoner if they choose to arrest me but i will not come back myself,” he said.

However, the magistrate set February 27 as the date when Dr Besigye is expected to return to court.

Besigye was arrested in May last year on the eve of president Yoweri Museveni’s swearing in and airlifted to Moroto District where he was charged with treason and remanded to Moroto government prison. However, he was later transferred to Kampala, charged afresh Nakawa Court and remanded to Luzira prison before being released on bail by the High Court.
