Saudi Prince Buys 80 Plane Tickets for His 80 Hawks

Most of us could only dream of buying one ticket on a flight to whisk is to our holidays.

Now it turns out a flock of birds have been handed the privilege.

A Saudi prince bought fares for not one, but 80 of his hawks to fly them across the world with him.

The birds have taken up temporary residence sitting side by side with other passengers as they cruise at 30,000ft.

The quirky image of all the hawks sitting at their seats has gone viral since it was uploaded online.

Shared on content site Reddit by user Lensoo, the post has attracted thousands of comments.

Though it’s unclear which airline these pets were travelling on, most carriers have restrictions on how many birds can board.

Qatar Airways states in its travel advice: “You are permitted to carry one falcon on board the Economy Class passenger cabin of an aircraft, and a maximum of six falcons are permitted within the Economy Class cabin of an aircraft (country regulations may apply).”

Etihad Airways also allows falcons, advising: “We accept the carriage of falcons in the main aircraft cabin provided that all the necessary documents have been obtained. We also accept falcons as checked baggage.”

Despite the image appearing a little out of the ordinary for air travel, falconry is an elite pastime in the Middle East.
