A campaign to offset medical costs of event organiser Kevin Ombajo — popularly known as Big Kev — has realised Sh7.1 million so far.
The amount had been realised by Friday night during a dinner at Carnivore Restaurant, Nairobi.
Hundreds showed up at the mirth-filled event where every entrant was required to buy a ticket for Sh10,000.
Jalang’o and Big Ted were the MCs for the night.
Big Kev was represented at the event by his wife Tracy who thanked Kenyans for their donations.
Mr Ombajo is recuperating from his eighth head surgery.
The founder of True Blaq Events has been battling a recurrent head tumour. He lost his sight late last year.
The Friday event was organised mainly by Big Kev’s colleagues at the Events’ Managers Association of Kenya who had contributed Sh1.5 million by Friday.
“We are doing this because of our love for Kevin. We know he would do the same if any of us were in his position,” Ms Wambui Njoora, the association’s vice chairperson told the gathering.
Yesterday, the association’s general manager Martin Mulwa said the event was a success.
“We are still getting donations,” he said.
“It was very impressive. We are very encouraged by the number of Kenyans who bought tickets.”
Celebrities who attended the Carnivore dinner include Redsan, Nameless and Wahu, Nonini, Atemi, Kidum, Amos and Josh, Habida, Frasha, Chris Adwar, Shaffie Weru, Bhuddha Blaze, ‘Judge’ Ian, Kriss Darlin, Robert Burale, DJ Stylez, Lorna Irungu, Chris Kirwa among others.
The entertainers have set Sh20 million as their target and Mr Mulwa said he is optimistic Kenyans will contribute.
