The women, led by human rights activist/Convener, Women Arise, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, had visited Alausa as part of the activities marking this year’s International Women’s Day.

As reported by naij.com, the women had requested to see Governor Akinwumi Ambode, whom they said they wanted to deliver a message to, concerning perceived women’s oppression in the society.

The security men attached to the governor’s office reportedly refused to allow the women in, a situation that allegedly resulted in a confrontation between the women and the security men.

Security men reportedly attacked the women with tear gas, and a female protester was allegedly injured in the process, though the nature of the injury was not stated.

The women reportedly moved to the Lagos State House of Assembly, where they had demanded to see the Speaker. Again, they could not see him.

The online medium added that on their way to the Lagos State House of Assembly complex, the women came across the Lagos Chief Judge whose car was approaching the governor’s office.

They asked her to address them since she is also a woman, but the women could not get their wish.
