The midfielder initially struggled to make an impact in the Premier League following a summer transfer, but is now flourishing under Jose Mourinho

Henrikh Mkhitaryan maintains that he always believed he would be given an opportunity to prove himself at Manchester United.

The Armenia international’s arrival at Old Trafford in a £26 million deal generated quite a buzz, with his exploits at Borussia Dortmund helping to showcase his undoubted quality.

Mourinho: Next year will be easier

He was to be eased into the fold by Jose Mourinho though, with early struggles keeping him on the fringes for longer than many had anticipated.

Mkhitaryan was, however, to make the most of his game time when fully adjusted to life in England and the Premier League.

He is now considered to be a key part of Mourinho’s plans, with the 28-year-old adamant that he always kept faith in his ability.

He told AFP: “Our life is worthless without difficulties.

“Every person must be able to handle difficulties and the same concerns me. But it was not difficult for me to overcome these as I knew I would get my chance and I would use that.

‘Best is yet to come from Pogba’

“Yes, there are cases when a person faces much tougher problems, but he or she must be ready to face them. I just waited for my chance. I worked and I worked hard.”

Mkhitaryan spent close to two months out of the first-team picture at United after being hauled off at half-time in a derby date with Manchester City on September 10 – in what was his first Premier League start.

Since being drafted back into the side, the 28-year-old has contributed seven important goals to the cause in league, cup and European competition.
