HARARE – Disgruntled CAPS United fans have come out guns blazing following the departure of captain and defender Dennis Dauda after the 2-0 defeat to Yadah FC in midweek.
The former ZPC Kariba was transfer listed by the Green Machine after allegations of match-fixing.
Dauda, who is a congregant at Walter Magaya’s PHD Ministries Church had posted a message on social media which appeared to suggest that he would influence the outcome the match. Magaya is the owner of Yadah.
The Facebook post read: “Today we are playing my father’s team. I will do my best so that my father will be proud of me. We want a win, no matter what (CAPS).”
What has made the Makepekepe fans go ballistic is the fact that the defender has gone on to join Yadah for a reported $30 000 transfer fee.
“Zifa must investigate Dauda. He must be banned for life. His behaviour has no place in our beautiful game,” Kiripo Chifamba a staunch CAPS United supporter told the Daily News.
“That post was not innocent my brother. He posted it himself and don’t you think there is need for some explanation here, surely he must be interrogated.
“In fact, even the Yadah owner must also be investigated. This is unprofessional to say the least. Imagine if it was in Europe and a player behaves in such a manner. If we can allow such things like this to happen then our football is really not going anywhere.”
Chifamba added: “I think (Farai) Jere must also look for sponsors and not run the club like a tuck shop. Things are difficult and there is need to look for people who can help him because with the current situation, surely he cannot go it alone.”
Another CAPS United staunch supporter popularly known as Mupositori Kepekepe said: “The team is bigger than these individual players. It’s better that he has left the team.
“In fact it’s a clique; there are still some players who I feel must leave the club because they do not have the team at heart. It’s very sad. But one thing for sure is that the club will always be there and these players will come and go. We knew about it before we played that game. It’s very sickening.”
Another CAPS fan ZiSuper said Dauda’s behaviour should be taken seriously and is actually a national problem.
“It’s hard to take especially with the amount of trust we had in him,” ZiSuper said.
“It’s actually a disgrace to our football in general.
“Remember this is the guy who was recently called to the national team and tell me, will he perform when we play a country like Nigeria because that’s where Magaya’s spiritual father comes from.
“This is a criminal offence and must be investigated. It is a national problem and he must not be called to Warriors because we cannot surely trust him. CAPS must launch a report to Zifa so that he can be banned or fined to set an example to other players who might do the same in the future.”
