‘Zim now resembles war zone’

HARARE – Zimbabwe now resembles a war zone, with citizens’ movement curtailed by harassment at border posts and arbitrary stops at numerous roadblocks, a Cabinet minister said yesterday.

“There are things that really frighten citizens, these things called spikes,” Tourism minister Walter Mzembi said during the launch of the Economic Development in Africa Report 2017 yesterday.

“You know what is right for the market and the world has international benchmarks on how policing should be done….We are not a war zone we are not a conflict zone we just want to be policed with international best practices.

“There is absolutely no reason for a country with 14 million people to create queues, what about China . . . the winding queues at Beitbridge?”
