Omar: I don’t need endorsement to win

Mombasa Wiper governorship candidate Hassan Omar has said he does not need endorsement by the National Super Alliance (Nasa) flagbearer Raila Odinga for him to be elected as the county boss.

Mr Omar mocked incumbent Governor Hassan Joho over his stunts of taking photos with Mr Odinga “thinking that he will be elected”.

“I am here to strengthen Nasa’s perspective. He (Mr Joho) has failed to deliver for the county of Mombasa. I do not need to be going round with my principals,” said Mr Omar.

He accused Mr Joho for failing to deliver for the people of Mombasa and asked voters to elect him instead.

He said he does not need endorsement of any community for him to remove Mr Joho from office.

“I do not need endorsement of the Kamba or Luo communities because I know I am in their souls. I don’t need their endorsement. I want you to elect Raila and Kalonzo.

“We want to shun tribalism in this country and we have to do that by removing Uhuru, Ruto and Joho as well, ” he said.

Mr Omar said Mombasa cannot afford another five years of Mr Joho saying the county is rated among the worst “because of his bad leadership”.

“Nairobi and Mombasa are among the worst rated counties in Nasa’s manifesto and that is why I am telling the Nasa principals that you cannot change Mombasa without changing Hassan Joho,” he said.

He was speaking in Chaani, Changamwe where he was accompanied by Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr and other Mombasa candidates for various seats.

He asked the residents to vote in Nasa saying it will deal with the problems of poor infrastructure and unemployment.

“After [getting] power we…ask the Nasa government to give us Sh50 billion so that we deal with the infrastructure problem here in Mombasa. It is through the projects that we will be able to give opportunities to our youth,” said Mr Omar
