HARARE – Dynamos forward Christian Ntouba scored a brilliant winning goal late in the second half to help his side defeat Ngezi Platinum Stars 3-2 in a Castle Lager Premiership match last night.
With the win, DeMbare moved to 23 points on the log and are now just three points behind leaders Black Rhinos.
Denver Mukamba, Ocean Mushure and Ntouba were on target as the Glamour Boys picked up their fourth straight victory.
The platinum miners got their goals through Terrence Dzvukamanja and former Dynamos midfielder Dominic Mukandi.
Dynamos coach Llyod Mutasa said: “I think we needed the win. It’s one fixture we had been talking about and we needed to win it to be counted. Winning four games in a row is a big achievement for our institution.”
Ngezi Platinum coach Tonderai Ndiraya said: “It’s a disappointing result for our team: we conceded silly goals and I think that’s where we lost the game. Overall, I’m happy with the performance of the boys.”
The visitors started as the better side dictating pace especially in midfield where Mukandi, Walter Mukanga and Liberty Chakoroma gave their opponents little room by stamping their authority.
It only looked a matter of time before they could find the target only to be let down by their strike force of Tichaona Mabvura, Donald Teguru and Dzvukamanja, who took turns to miss several scoring opportunities.
The Glamour Boys slowly worked their way back into the game with Quality Kangadzi coming close on 22 minutes only to be denied by Ngezi goalkeeper Takabva Mawaya while moments later Mukamba saw his effort from a corner kick crash against the cross bar.
DeMbare duly went ahead on 29 minutes when Mukamba connected a Peace Makaha cross from the right side following some good buildups.
But with the home team appearing to reduce the tempo of the game, Ngezi Platinum Stars found the equaliser 10 minutes later when Dzvukamanja found space inside the box with an exquisite turn and shoot that gave Dynamos goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga no chance.
The second half started with the match swinging from one end to the other but it was Ngezi Platinum Stars who went ahead on 70 minutes when Mukandi jumped high to head home a Mabvura corner kick.
But Dynamos were back on level terms five minutes later through a beautifully taken Mushure free kick from just outside the box after substitute Takunda Sadiki had been fouled by Chakoroma.
Ntouba, who missed Dynamos’ last victory against Tsholotsho made sure of the points when he provided a neat finish inside the box when he was set up by Makaha.
The Cameroonian raced past the Ngezi defence before unleashing a powerful shot past Mawaya.
