DeMbare’s revival in real test

HARARE – Despite Harare giants Dynamos’ recent impressive run, there are some who have dismissed them as credible Castle Lager Premiership title challengers.

But time has come for the Glamour Boys to underline their credentials as they travel to fourth-placed Chicken Inn in Bulawayo, who have gradually lifted themselves following an indifferent start to the season, before last weekend’s defeat to Chapungu.

Chasing their first premier league title since 2014, Lloyd Mutasa’s charges sit second on the log table with 29 points two behind log leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars, who travel to Gibbo Stadium for a date against Triangle.

DeMbare could have been on top of the table as one of their outstanding matches is the halted tie against Chapungu in which they were leading 0-4 when play was stopped following the collapse of a goalpost on 56 minutes.

Lloyd Mutasa’s charges are likely to get maximum points after the Premier Soccer League’s Disciplinary Committee summoned Chapungu to a hearing for failure to provide an alternative goalpost.

Dynamos’ resurgence has left assistant coach Biggie Zuze is in awe although he believes there is still a lot of work needs to be done before they start talk of winning the championship.

“There is no doubt that the youngsters have been playing exciting football recently but we are still looking at improving the team,” Zuze told the Daily News.

“We cannot talk of the championship as yet. It’s a marathon and there is still a long way to go. We just want to ensure we keep on working hard and keep those positive results coming. It’s also interesting that people are beginning to notice us.

“Remember at the start of the season very few people gave us a chance to be where we are today. So, for us we don’t want to put these youngsters under pressure but rather let them enjoy their game.”

On their match against Chicken Inn, Zuze acknowledges that it will not be an easy game and has called on his players to remain focused as they seek a seventh straight win.

“This is going to be a massive game. Chicken Inn is a good side and they have also been playing well lately and I can tell you it’s not going to be an easy match,” said Zuze.

“So there is need for the youngsters to stay focused and work hard. They need to forget all the previous results and put their focus on this game. It’s a new game and we hope to pick another set of maximum points.”

The Glamour Boys welcome back striker Emmanuel Mandiranga, who missed last weekend’s 2-0 win against Bantu Rover through suspension, while striker Quality Kangadzi and midfielder Gift Saunyama could be in line to return from the injuries.

In other matches, Harare City will also be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they travel to How Mine following last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Hwange at home. The Sunshine Boys have been on a revival since the arrival of Philani “Beefy” Ncube last month.
